Welcome To Grand Cayman

PLEAES NOTE: We are having problems uploading photos to this site. We have some nice ones from last evenings celebration of Eric and Kara’s engagement dinner so we will try to update these and others in the next few days.

We just wanted to note what a lovely evening we had on the ship last evening. We had a very nice time at the Crystal Society Reception and we sat with another family on board the ship. Dinner in the dining room was wonderful and we surprised Kara and Eric with the engagement cake. It was a very special evening.

After dinner, we went over to the Cinema Theatre where the Texas/Alabama championship game was being showed. By the time we arrived the first half was almost over and we learned of the injury to Colt McCoy. While the team we were pulling for did not win we are very proud of the team and win or lose it is always great to see a team you have been following throughout the year get this far.

This morning we each worked out in the Fitness Center as we have done since the beginning of the cruise. Keith began his workout at 5:30 AM and Anne Marie arrived about an hour later. Once again, Keith worked out on the elliptical machine for one hour and twenty minutes and Anne Marie worked out on the treadmill for one hour.

For the second day in the row, Keith managed to bring back one cup of coffee (not two) to the room with no difficulties.

We also managed to do the laundry this morning. Anne Marie got the wash started and then when Keith returned back to the room he got the clothes in the dryer and the clothes that are not to go in the dryer onto hangers.

Today, we visited Grand Cayman. We have had the opportunity to visit this Island several times on previous cruises but the last time was almost ten years ago.

Grand Cayman is actually the largest of the three Cayman Islands. There are two distinct sides to this Island. On the Western side of this Island is Georgetown which is the capital. One will find lots of resorts, restaurants and shopping on this side of the Island. The Eastern side of the Island is fairly undeveloped in comparison to the Western side.

As is the case with so many of the Islands in this area of the world, tourism plays a major role for the local economy. One of the features that attracts major tourism is the spectacular scuba diving and snorkeling that awaits those tourists traveling to this Island.

This morning, Jennifer, Gui, Eric and Kara participated on the Stingray Shore Excursion, which we booked through Crystal. They were taken on a snorkel boat to Stingray City Sandbar, which is located approximately 30 minutes away by boat in Grand Cayman’s north sound. This area is home to many dozens of stingrays. On our last visit to this Island, Jennifer and Eric snorkeled with the Stingrays while Mom and Dad looked on. The kids had an outstanding time on the excursion.

While the kids were taking the shore excursion we took a tender from the ship over to the downtown area. We were the only ship in port so it was a pleasure to just walk around. We went into some shop including a china and crystal shop that we had visited the last time we were here. The weather was delightful with temperatures in the low 80’s.

Once back on the ship we picked up our passports, which will be needed for us to clear immigration when we arrive to Miami in a few days and we also pre-ordered wine for this evening.

We met the kids for lunch and ate at the Lido Café. We made our own salad entrees while the kids all had different food items.

After lunch all six of us took the tender back over to Georgetown and walked around for a couple of hours. The weather was beautiful.

Before dinner this evening we had the children up to our room for Hors D’oeuvres that the butler organized for all of us.

This evening we all had dinner at the Prego Specialty Restaurant where we enjoyed wonderful Italian Cuisine.

We went to the late entertainment show which featured Cruise Director Gary Hunter who is also a ventriloquist, Variety Violinist Greg Scott and the Dynamic Dance Duo of Desiree and Chris. We really wanted the children to see Gary Hunter perform as over the years we have always enjoyed Gary’s performance. As usual, Gary was wonderful and we had tears rolling down our eyes.

OUR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…..

Life is a journey and it is love that makes that journey worthwhile.
