En Route To St. Lucia - Day 4

NOTE: We included three pictures of us taken in the Fitness Center this morning. This includes Keith on his favorite Ellpitical Machine, which is one of four in the Fitness Center. There is one picture of Anne Marie on her favorite Treadmill located the furthest from the left of the row of Treadmills. We also included a picture taken of us before dinner on Wednesday evening.

We first wanted to say what a nice time we had last evening.

Last night was informal night. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the Main Dining Room. We each had a salad but each one was different, fresh Atlantic Salmon from the lighter side of the menu along with for our dessert. The wait staff continues to be outstanding. They have quickly learned all of our dining preferences, which is one of the nice advantages of assigned dining.

Afterwards, we attended a cocktail party sponsored by our travel consortium. We met several passengers who we have not met before who are on for one or more voyages along with others that we have either already met on this sailing or we know from the past. We enjoyed a nice long conversation with a couple from Naples, Florida who is on the Miami to Brazil leg of the World Cruise. We talked about places that we have seen and how nice our experiences with Crystal have been.

Several members of the Crystal staff attended including the Crystal Society Hostess, the Head of Housekeeping and the Cruise Director. Speaking of Housekeeping we mentioned to her that on Tuesday night we saw the assistant of Housekeeping on our deck and she was checking certain area of the hallway for dust. Essentially, she was doing the white glove check, which we have seen from time to time on previous Crystal Cruises.

This is another area where Crystal excels in cleanliness of the entire ship.

We then went to the early show, which featured Broadway Vocalist Michel Bell and Pianist Catherine Matejka. We have seen several performances by Michel Bell over they years and thoroughly enjoyed the show. His first two songs were from West Side Story, which was very appropriate given that Rita Moreno is a lecturer on this voyage.

We awoke early this morning and Keith was once again the first guest up to the Fitness Center. Keith did his usual long workout on the Elliptical Machine and then spent time on the weight lifting machines. Three fellow passengers were there for a portion of the workout including friend John.

Anne Marie came up around the time Keith finished and she worked out on the treadmill and then our friend Stan (Stan and Mary) showed Anne Marie a little more about the weight lifting equipment. This time we both took today’s yoga class and then after the class Anne Marie finished her workout on the treadmill. In between all of this we enjoyed a nice breakfast in the room.

Since this is another sea day as we make our way to St. Lucia there have been numerous activities throughout the day.

During the Captain Glenn’s morning announcement he mentioned that we were 63 land miles off the coast of Puerto Rico and that we would arrive in St. Lucia at 7:00 AM tomorrow morning. We will have tender service, which will begin at 8:00 AM. The outside temperature at the time of his announcement was 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

Captain Glenn’s thought of the day was.

“You can’t pirate the wind but you can adjust the sails.”

While Anne Marie finished her workout Keith stopped by to talk with the on board consultant to convert a cruise that we had booked for 2011 while at home over to an on board booking. He also ran into our cabin steward, Jazmina, who we had during the 2007 World Cruise. She gave Keith a big hug and we will both see her sometime during the cruise.

At 1100 AM we went to a lecture given by Actress Rita Moreno. The topic of her presentation was “The Lively Arts – A brief history of the Wonderful World of Film and Theatre.” Over the years we have been to many lectures and this was one of the best ones we have ever attended. Rita Moreno talk was not only well prepared but it was delivered with enthusiasm, humor and passion.

After the lecture we had lunch in the Main Dining Room with Cruise Director Rick Spath. We first got to know Rick during the 2008 World Cruise and cherish the time that we get to spend with him during these long cruises. Keith’s first cruise was on the Homeric cruise ship, which was part of a cruise line called Home Lines, and Rick worked for them early in his career.

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon on the ship catching up with passengers who we know from previous cruises and other passengers who we have met for the very first time on this voyage.

This evening we dine at the Silk Road Specialty Restaurant with our good friends Mary and Stan. More on this tomorrow.

We look forward to our first port of call for the World Cruise including our very first visit to St. Lucia tomorrow morning.

OUR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY….

“A friend is one who walks in while others walk out.”

Keith and Anne Marie
