En Route To St. Lucia - Day 3

NOTE: The first two pictures are from the Asian Buffet and then the next three pictures include picture from Captain’s Welcome Reception, picture at our Dining Room Table on formal night, and a picture from formal night in the atrium area of the ship.

We wanted to begin by saying that our hearts go out to those in Haiti who may have been impacted by the earthquake. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

We thought we would recap last evening. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the Main Dining Room. Last night was formal night and everyone looked so wonderful in their formal attire. We sat with our friends John and Linda before dinner where complimentary drinks were offered in the various bars. Afterwards we enjoyed a wonderful dinner in the Main Dining Room. As this was the first formal night, the dinner menu included fresh lobster, which is a favorite of Anne Marie’s. The service was outstanding. We truly love our wait staff and appreciate all that the do for us. We also are enjoying the location of our table. We also had our picture taken for a yearbook like book, which will have the names and pictures of all World cruisers. It provides not only a nice memory but is also very helpful in learning the names of those world cruisers who we have not sailed with before.

After dinner we saw our friends Bob and Glo and we went to the captain’s welcome reception with them. We sat with them, another couple and actress Rita Moreno and her husband. We enjoyed a wonderful conversation with them and it really capped off a wonderful evening for us on the ship. One of our all-time movies is West Side Story and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet and talk with Rita Moreno.

We also enjoyed the talk given by Cruise Director Rick Spath and we also enjoyed talking with Captain Glenn on the reception line.

Last evening we moved the clocks forward one hour as we sail into a time zone change. Even with the time change we each got up quite early. Keith enjoyed a nice long workout on the Elliptical Machine and then did some weight lifting. Anne Marie worked out on the treadmill. We enjoyed a nice breakfast in the room and we even got in a couple of loads of laundry.

Afterwards, Anne Marie attended the Yoga class while Keith did some reading and writing.

During Captain Glenn’s morning announcement he noted that it was already 75 degrees Fahrenheit, although it is windy and the seas are a bit choppy.

Captain Glenn’s thought of the day was about courage and one that we truly enjoyed hearing.

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak and courage is what it takes to sit down and listen.”

Something that Keith used to talk often about with his former work colleagues was the importance of two way communication.

This morning there were two featured lectures. The first one was by Special Interest Lecturer Bill Toone whose presentation was titled “Rainforest Biology” – Beautiful, Exciting and Essential. Bill Toone was on a cruise we were on in March of 2009 but we were unable to make it to his lectures and we were very glad we could attend today’s lecture. We look forward to attending his other lectures.

Keith attended the Rap with the Rabbi. This was the first of the cruise. These sessions are held every other sea day and allows for a nice discussion of many different topics. There were about twenty people in attendance. Those attending are of different faiths and we also had some diversity in terms of where guest live as several are from outside the United States. We first met the Rabbi and his lovely wife in 2007 and have been on several sailings with them since then.

The second lecture of the morning was given by Retired General Nick Halley who presented “The War Against Radical Islam – Our World Since 9/11”. We did not attend this one as we have heard this presentation before.

We had lunch in the Main Dining Room. At the same time there was the Asia Café Luncheon Buffet, which offered an array of wonderfully prepared items.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie watched a movie. Keith went back to the Fitness Center to workout on some of the weight lifting machines and then ended up showing two women guests how to use the machines. He also spoke with the fitness directors who normally Keith does not see since he works out so early in the morning. Later in the afternoon Keith sat with fellow passenger Bob for a nice talk about world events.

Crystal excels in so many areas and one of them is all of the thought and care that is put into planning sea days. During the World Cruise there is even an expanded array of activities. Today was no exception.

During the morning and afternoon hours there were fifty-one activities and that does not include eating. J In the evening there were 14 activities. There is so much to do, which we truly enjoy

This evening we will have dinner in the Main Dining Room and then attend a cocktail reception provided by the Travel Consortium that our Travel Specialist is associated with. We will tell you more about our evening when we Blog tomorrow.

TODAY’S THOUGHT OF THE DAY…..

Ability may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there.”

Keith and Anne Marie
