En Route To Grand Cayman

En Route To Grand Cayman

Success! For those of you following Keith’s escapades with the coffee, after his workout this morning he brought back just one cup of coffee to the room rather than two cups. Yes, the good news was that nothing was spilled on either him or on any of the carpets.

Our friends Ricki and David also made an excellent suggestion on this Blog for Keith and that is to use a tray. Thank you Ricki and David. You are right. If Keith would have done just that there would have been no spills and he could have brought back to the room as much coffee as he wanted.

Another suggestion came from the Room Stewardess. She said to Keith, “why not order room service?”

Before we begin with today we just wanted to say how much we enjoyed last evening. Before dinner we attended a party that was sponsored by Crystal Cruises for those people who are members of the Cruise Critic Forum. Over twenty five passengers were in attendance along with several member of the Crystal Staff including the Hotel Director, Cruise Director, two assistant Cruise Directors ,Crystal Society Hostess, and on board booking consultant. It was a wonderful party.

Afterwards while we waited to go to dinner at the Silk Road Japanese Specialty Restaurant the four kids played some board games while we took care of a few items around the ship.

Then came dinner and we had a wonderful time. We were seated at a very nice large table and we started with two very large platters of sushi and sashimi. We ordered a large variety of items to feast on. Then some of the family members had salads or other appetizers, then soup, an entrée and then for some it was onto desert. The service, food and ambience were all wonderful.

Today is a day at sea. Since we want to spend as much time as possible with the family we are not going to the lectures. We look forward to doing that at the start of the World Cruise.

Keith awoke early and was at the fitness center at 5:30 AM for a great workout on the Elliptical Machine for an hour and twenty minutes. Anne Marie joined him towards the end of his workout and she went on the treadmill for an hour. We enjoyed a nice breakfast in the room and the kids had breakfast on their own and also did their workouts.

We all met at 9:30 AM and we played mixed doubles of table tennis for quite awhile.

We received invitations the other day for cocktails at 11:30 AM at the Captain John Okland’s Quarters. The reception was for all passengers who are celebrating birthdays during this cruise and we are celebrating some for family members. We all had a wonderful time and we spoke at good length with the Hotel Director and the Captain’s Wife and with some other passengers.

At lunchtime we had lunch in the Main Dining Room with the six of us and friends Stan and Mary. We had an enjoyable time with them and look forward to sailing with Stan and Mary for the entire World Cruise. They are very special and dear friends.

In the afternoon we all did different things. Keith and played paddle tennis, while Anne Marie walked and everyone else sat out at the pool.

Before dinner we attended the Crystal Society Reception, which is always a lot of fun. This is for those passengers who have sailed with Crystal for the very first time.

This evening we enjoyed a wonderful meal in the Main Dining Room. We celebrated the engagement of our son Eric and his fiancé Kara. Their names were listed in today’s daily program as being engaged and we had ordered a special meal for dinner. This included Caesar salad prepared tableside along with Veal Oscar, vegetables and a special cake for the engagement couple. Yes, even Anne Marie and Keith had a little piece of it.

Today we received some information from Crystal Cruises about our itinerary for a portion of the World Cruise. Recently, the Maritime Security Center – Horn of Africa (MSCHOA, which is comprised of coalition forces headquartered in England) had issued strong security advisories regarding maritime routes surrounding the Seychelles. Since these warnings cover such a great distance of unpatrolled waters, for the security of all concerned, the cruise line is compelled to revise the portion of the World Cruise that begins in Cape Town on February 9, 2010.

Our new route will take us further south in the Indian Ocean after departing from Mombasa, Kenya. In order to cruise from Kenya to India along this more southerly route, the cruise line had to eliminate our call in Mahé and our half-day visit to Malé. We fully understand the need for this revision as Crystal correctly makes security of passenger’s, crew and the ship a top priority.

After dinner we caught the University of Texas Football Game, which is still on while we are posting this.

We thought that with Eric and Kara and their recent engagement that the thought for today should be about love.

TODAY’S THOUGHT OF THE DAY

“The heart that loves is always young.”

Keith and Anne Marie
