En Route To Zanzibar, Tanzania – Day 38

NOTE: Three pictures from today’s men’s and women’s basketball event and two pictures from last evening before and during dinner.

We enjoyed a very nice dinner with Destination Lecturer Ken Rees and his lovely wife Lynne last evening. We dined together at the Silk Road Specialty Restaurant. It was formal night on the ship as there are four formal nights given the length of this particular leg of the voyage. Once again the food and the service was truly outstanding. We all shared a nice platter of sushi, which was mostly sashimi along with a couple of sushi rolls. Anne Marie had the sushi, while Keith, Lynne and Ken had mainly the Sashimi although we introduced them to a roll that Keith enjoys. We all either had a salad or the soup and each of us enjoyed a different entrée. We also enjoyed another outstanding conversation. It has been great getting to know Ken and Lynne during this voyage. Ken’s lectures have been outstanding as he is able to provide a good deal of information during his talks while throwing in various anecdotes and humor. We touched on a variety of subjects during dinner and we could have spent the entire evening talking with the two of them. One of the aspects that we find very appealing to cruising is that we meet so many people who have varied experiences and backgrounds and many who come from other areas of the world. It is so nice to learn from each person and to see how each person sees current events and what is occurring around the world and just to hear about each person life stories. We enjoy talks with fellow passengers, crew members and those who come on board as part of the enrichment/entertainment team.

During the course of this leg of the World Cruise Keith has spent a good amount of time talking with two of the entertainers who are no board from Cape Town to Mombasa. They are from the United Kingdom and he has learned so much from them on a variety of subjects from customs to life as entertainers.

Given the time change from last evening we were fairly tired so we skipped last evening’s production show and turned in relatively early. We enjoyed a very good nights sleep. In fact, this was one of just two times that the alarm clock woke Keith up as usually his internal alarm clock wakes him up. J The seas have been relatively calm but there is enough rocking to rock us to sleep in short order.

Once again, Keith was up early this morning and enjoyed another nice workout in the Fitness Center. It is so easy to just walk up a few flights of stairs and to be able to workout and we appreciate the fact that the Fitness Center his open 24 hours a day. Keith worked out on the stationary bicycle and as he does regularly and worked out on just a couple of the weight machines. For much of the workout we had the same four people up at that hour; fellow passengers John and Brian and the Executive Chef. After the workout Keith stopped by the Lido Café to get some coffee to bring back to the room. He spoke with Lido Deck Steward Earl. Like the passenger’s, there are also World Games that the crew members can participate in during the evening hours so we have been getting updates from the crew as to how this is going. This adds to the overall spirit on the ship. Anne Marie also enjoyed a nice workout on the Treadmill and also brought coffee back to the room following her workout.

We enjoyed breakfast in the room. We each had oatmeal and some fruit, which is pretty typical of what we eat on most mornings.

Right after breakfast Keith went to the salon to have a haircut by the stylist we both use for our hair. Of course, Keith’s cut requires quite a less time than Anne Marie’s as there is far less hair for the Stylist to cut. L

During Captain Glenn’s daily talk from the bridge he noted that we were running a little behind schedule due to the headwinds. Captain Glenn’s daily thought of the day was “Don’t try to be the person everyone wants, try to be the person everyone wants to be.”

We both attended the Rap with the Rabbi and this one was the most well attended one of the cruise. The discussion was quite an active one.

After the Rap with the Rabbi Keith was off to the top deck of the ship which is the Sun Dec for the Men’s Free Throw Basketball Tournament. In 2007 Keith won the gold for this event and in 2008 he won the Silver, but as Keith knows there is quite a bit of luck with this game given that the winds on this deck. It is not like shooting a basket on land. The basketball goal was set up on the Paddle Tennis courts and this was Keith’s first time on those courts since the ankle injury. Keith ended up winning the Silver Medal.

Right after the Men’s event, Anne Marie participated in the Women’s Free Throw contest. Anne Marie won a Bronze in 2007 but she was not a finalist this time around.

We enjoyed a very nice lunch in the Main Dining Room with Cruise Director Rick Spath. We always enjoy conversing with Rick.

In the afternoon, Anne Marie played in the ladies doubles table tennis tournament and won a Bronze Medal. She also walked on the Promenade Deck for one hour. Keith spent time with some other passengers and also caught up on some reading and writing.

Before dinner we attended the World Cruise Games Thrill of Victory Medals Ceremony.

After the ceremony, we enjoyed dinner in the Main Dining Room.

We will post more tomorrow about the Ceremony, Dinner and the evening entertainment.

TODAY’S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…..

Those who have said they have never made a mistake have never done anything.

Lovely picts Keith and Anne Marie! Please tell Ken hello from Nancy and Larry. We had the best time with him and many others such as Alvin, Morrie and Jim on the September 2007 Dover to NY crossing. Unfortunately, Lynn was unable to join Ken and their son Chris was on for part of the segment with Ken.

Enjoy the lovely segment,

Nancy
