En Route To Zanzibar, Tanzania - Day 37

NOTE: We’ve included some pictures from yesterday. Two pictures with Anne Marie with our friend Mary Ellen. They played each other in one of the games that Anne Marie played in yesterday. There is also picture of Anne Marie in front of the torch for the World Games taken in the Crystal Cove.

We had a wonderful time on the ship last evening.

Before dinner, we went to see the string du of Rafael and Monika who were also accompanied by the Galaxy Orchestra. They were outstanding. This is the first time they have performed on Crystal Cruises and they quickly became favorites of the audience. They are both from Poland and had a very sincere stage presence and their music was wonderful. They will perform one more time before they like the other entertainers depart the ship in Kenya before the second half of this long leg of the World Cruise continues. We are sure they will be back performing on other Crystal Cruises.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a very nice dinner in the Main Dining Room. Believe it or not Keith had an entrée other than seafood and Anne Marie did likewise. The other day we were talking to the Headwaiter that we had missed having the Ostrich when it was available in another venue and Augusto said they could prepare it for us on another evening. Keith has had Ostrich a couple of times before including the first time at a land based restaurant and thought it was great. It looks and tastes like a Filet Mignon but is quite lean. Keith was unable to convince Anne Marie to order it so he had it himself this evening and it was wonderful Anne Marie had chicken. We also enjoyed a nice salad, lots of vegetables and mixed berries.

After dinner we attended the second show of the evening performed by Juggler Mark Nizer. We decided to sit in the front row seat. Mind you, comedian Kenny Smiles told Keith that if we sat in the front row that one of us might end up on stage and in the show but we figured that Kenny was wrong. Well, Kenny was right. Midway into the show Keith and fellow passenger Brian ended up on stage for about five minutes. Of course the five minutes ended up feeling like one hour. J It was fun to help out and we enjoyed the show.

Before going to bed last night we forwarded the clocks forward one hours as we are sailing into yet another time zone so we did not go to the Mardi Gras event that took place at 10:30 PM.

We have enjoyed that many of the shows have been performed earlier in the evening such as the pre-dinner show and the other show that was held between the early and late seating’s. This has provided us with a very nice opportunity to attend many more shows this time around.

We enjoyed a wonderful nights sleep on the ship as we looked forward to another nice day on the ship.

Keith awoke early this morning for his daily workout. He was the first to arrive at the center, which was not surprising given the forwarding of the clocks. Once again, he worked out on the stationary bicycle. While he would prefer to workout on the Elliptical Machine he knows that he is not ready for this type of exercise given his ankle. Patience is a virtue and that is very true. Fellow passenger came by to talk with Keith for a few minutes and Brian was also working out. Keith rode the bicycle for about ninety minutes and he stopped by the Lido Café for coffee. Keith spoke with Lido Deck Stewards Ross, Earl and Reymond for a while. They are always so helpful and a lot of fun to talk with.

Around the time that Keith got back to the room it was time for Anne Marie to begin her workout and she worked out on the Treadmill for an hour. Like Keith she got coffee to bring back to the room.

We enjoyed our breakfast back in the room as we watched the Daily Morning Show on the television. Keith called in and answered one of the trivia questions correctly.

During Captain Glenn’s morning talk from the bridge he noted that we are sailing off the coast of Mozambique. The weather is quite nice and the forecast calls for continued nice weather.

Today’s thought of the day from Captain Glenn was “Friends are like stars. You don’t necessarily see them but you know they are always there.”

We spoke with the World Cruise Hostess for about 45 minutes this morning. We really appreciate all that Stacey Huston does in her role. She is a very vibrant and positive person with a great sense of humor.

Afterwards, we attended a lecture given by Special Interest Lecturer Roman Pryjomko who presented the Geography of Africa. We learned a great deal from his lecture and look forward to his additional talks.

We also attended another wonderful lecture given by Destination Lecturer Ken Rees. The topic of Ken’s presentation was “Spices, Slaves, and Man’s First Home – Welcome to Kenya and Zanzibar.” During Ken’s presentation he talked about the stories of Kenya which included their rich human history, tales of eccentric explorers and legendary Zanzibar where spice made men rich and the world’s biggest human market sent tens of thousands into slavery.

After Ken’s presentation we enjoyed another wonderful lunch at the Lido Café.

Anne Marie walked this afternoon while Keith did some reading and writing.

At 1:30, Keith played in the Table Tennis Men’s Single Tournament. He had to play very carefully given his sore ankle so no medal for Keith.

This evening is formal night on the ship and we will be dining with Destination Lecturer Ken Rees and his lovely wife Lynne. We are dining at Silk Road. We will post more about this evening sometime tomorrow.

In celebration of Mardi Gras, there was a special Mardi Gras dinner menu in the Main Dining. We’ll just list the chef’s suggestions which was an appetizer of tourte of Smoked Sturgeon and Potato Mousseline with Lemon Beurre Blanc and Salmon Roe, a soup of New Orleans Crawfish gumbo with Bell Peppers, Okra, Rice and Andouille Sausage, an entrée of Herb-Rubbed Roasted Veal Chop and Braised Veal Cheeks on truffled mashed potatoes with port-Infused Veal Stock Reduction, Asparagus, Yellow Baby Squash, and Caramelized Shallots. If you are still hungry the dessert was called “French Influence” which is Pear Caramel Cake, Poire Williams Sabayon, Caramelized Pear Chip and Vanilla Ice Cream.

TODAY’S THOUGHT FOR THE DAY…..

“You can make your world so much larger simply by acknowledging everyone else’s.”

Keith and Anne Marie
