En Route To Cochin, India - Day 45

NOTE: We included three pictures from formal night on the ship. We also included pictures of the two Olympians and also pictures from the shuffleboard tournament including one with Keith and or friend John.

WEDNESDAY’S, FEBRUARY 24, 2010 Post

We wanted to begin by saying that we enjoy reading comments that some of you have posted on our blog and look forward to reading them and hearing from many of you.

We enjoyed a very nice evening on the ship last evening. We dined at the Prego Italian Specialty Restaurant and had a very nice table at a window. Since it was a formal night most guests were dining in the Main Dining Room so there were very few passengers in Prego. Since it was quiet, it also allowed more time to speak with the waiter we had last evening who we have had several times before. We enjoyed talking about his hometown in Portugal and also about other items. We also spoke with one of the sommeliers for quite a while as well.

As usual the food was delicious. We began the meal with an appetizer that is compliments of the chef. Each night even if you have also ordered a regular appetizer on top of that all guests are served a small appetizer that the chef has created for that evening. This one was so tasty that we joked with the Waiter, and the Maitre d’ that we didn’t want to know how many calories we had just consumed. We have to say it was terrific.

We then moved onto the next course, which was the salad they make for us that is not on the menu, which is referred to as the Keith and Anne Marie salad or by our last name instead.

On most nights they feature two entrée specials that are not on the menu, which normally includes one entrée that is seafood. This evening we chose the seafood special as we normally do and it was a hit with us. It not only tastes delicious but its presentation was equally creative.

We ended the meal with a nice fruit plate and Anne Marie had coffee.

After dinner, we went to the Crystal Society Reception. This evening we learned that of the entire passenger’s on the ship that only eight are first time Crystal Cruises. Several passengers who we know quite well were recognized for the number of cruises they have taken with Crystal.

A couple of people who we know quite well were recognized for having sailed on a significant number of cruises. One of the guests recognized was George whose ninety-third birthday party celebration we recently attended and George also sang a song for all of us.

Yesterday, was also the Birthday for the Crystal Society Hostess so we all sang to her.

We sat with friends who included Bob and Glo, the Chan family, Enrichment Lecturer Barbara Rinella and her husband Dick and Pauline.

Last evening we also learned that our tour in Mumbai was canceled due to lack of participation. Either we picked the wrong tour or others knew better so we will need to figure out what we will do there. As background we were there for two days in 2008 and did quite a bit so we may not do a tour. We did speak with the Shore Excursion Manager during the Crystal Society Reception and he is also going to take a look at the tours for us.

This morning we awoke early to begin another nice day on the Crystal Serenity. As usual, Keith was up very early and began the day with a wonderful workout in the Fitness Center. Yes, he was the first one to the Center. While he was working out John also worked out along with another passenger and a few minutes before he finished Father Will began his workout. Keith was tempted to get on the Elliptical Machine but decided it would be best to give the ankle some additional rest and stayed with the Stationary Bicycle. He worked out for quite awhile and then stopped by the Lido Café to bring some coffee back to the room. He spoke with Lido Deck Steward Reymond for a little while.

Next up was Anne Marie who worked out for one hour on the treadmill and also stopped by the Lido Café for coffee.

We both watched the Morning Show while we enjoyed a nice breakfast in the room. After breakfast we pre-ordered a special meal for the Main Dining Room.

During Captain Glenn’s morning talk from the Bridge he noted that the outside air temperature was 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The captain noted that we are now sailing in a Northerly direction and are making good progress. We will pass the Equator tomorrow morning at around 9:00 AM.

Captain Glenn’s thought for the day is “Youth is not a time in life but a state of mind.”

Keith played in the mixed doubles Shuffleboard in the morning. This was one of the final events for the World Games. Keith and his female partner narrowly missed a gold and won the silver medal. Our friend John and his female partner won gold.

At 11:00 we went to the talk given by Olympians Janet Evans and Dr. Sammy Lee. It was wonderful to heard their Olympic stories, particularly the challenges of winning and losing along with what it means to not only win individual and team awards but also represents ones country in these events.

For lunch we went to the American Classic Buffet on the Lido Deck. The Buffet is set up around the Indoor Pool and as we have mentioned before features a wonderful array of traditional American items. We each made a delicious salad.

Keith enjoyed a nice talk with friend Bob in the afternoon and afterwards we went to the Jewish Festival Celebration for Purim. This was a wonderful celebration with the reading of the Scroll of Esther and a Purim Party with Mamantasen and a Klezmer Band.

After the party we went to the closing ceremony for the World Cruise Games where Keith received two bronze medals and one silver medal. The two bronze medals were from doubles men’s table tennis and from putting or as Keith likes to say Putt Putt. J The silver was from shuffleboard.

After the ceremony we dined at the Main Dining Room. We will share more events from this evening when we post tomorrow.

TODAY’S THOUGHT OF THE DAY…..

“Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing is so gentle as real strength.”

Keith and Anne Marie
